 Re: 2011 Turkey Season
I just got my boss to give me Monday and Tuesday off, so turkeys beware. Can’t wait to get upstate and back in the turkey woods with John for the first few days of the season. The plan is to stop at Gander on the way up to pickup the seeds for the plot that we worked on a few weeks ago. We are going to disc it one more time on Saturday then try to roost some birds on the farm for the Sunday morning hunt. Sunday we are going to hunt till 12 then roll the plot to make it flat, put the seeds down and roll it one more time. The forecast is calling for a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday so it will be good for the plot. Hopefully we will have some luck taking some big old toms on video.

Thanks, Yea Pat will be filming me Sunday morning. I can only hunt until 9:30 the latest, I have a communion to go to. Its my nephews and I wouldnt miss it. Im going to set us up in a pop up blind in a field below where a bunch of turkeys roost every year. I figure either they come in and the hunt is over or they drop down and walk away....... either way I still make the communion on time. Gonna put out three decoys with Killer B set up like a puppet, Im hoping to arrow my first turkey. Then Monday I will be camera man for Pat.

Post Re: 2011 Turkey Season
Well opening day came and went, it was pretty cool out this morning up in Ulster County, about 35 degrees and not a thing was talking, anywhere. Around 630 in the morning while driving to a new spot to see if we could hear any birds talking, two hens flew off the roost and landed in a field 10 feet from the truck with a nice tom right behind them, luckily for them, and unfortunate for us we didn't have permission to hunt the field they flew into, so we just sat and watched for a few minutes. After hitting a few more spots with no luck at all at even hearing a bird we descided to call it quits for an hour until it got a little warmer out hopeing that would get the birds in the mood to play. Driving back to my friends house, on the back end of his property we spotted what we thought was a lonely tom with a decent beard. We put the stalk on it and at 830 I let the hammer down, to our supprise it was a hen with a 9" beard. Not a huge bird but a bird nonetheless and its still going to taste good in the fryer! Hope everyone had a good opening morning, and hopefully another bird will fall victim to #4 shot.

Nice!! Congrats!! We had a great morning...... birds going ballistic all around. Had four jakes come into set up and put on a show at ten yards! Got some incredible footage but they wouldnt step out in front of one of my shooting windows. We were in a pop up blind trying to kill one with a bow. It was realy something to have birds like that sooooo close Gobbling at my every call and strutting. One of the best days afield I have ever had despite not taking a shot.
