Post Going Traditional....... again.
I just ordered a new bow!! I met this guy who makes custom recurves and longbows about four years ago at a trade show. The guys name is Rick Ellis and he owns Striker Bows. I have seen his bows and they are really beautiful.... I decided I want to get into hunting with traditional gear more often and wanted to upgrade to heavier poundage and better quality bow. I will get my bow when I go out to the Harrisburg show...... Im excited!!! Here are a few pictures.....

That bow is awesome; it really is a work of art. Taking an animal with a recurve would be awesome. It’s not something that I have ever tired before but it definitely increases the difficulty factor in an already difficult sport. I think that taking a doe or a spike with a recurve would be just as good as taking a nice 8 or 10 with a compound. I can’t wait to see how the new bow works out for you. I used to shoot at a range by my house when I was younger and the recurve guys always impressed me. They could shot groups just as tight as anybody, one guy even used to split arrows. Very Cool!!!

Great bow Charlie. I have a Pse recurve but i def need a lot more practice before i start hunting with it. My problem is trying to find somebody down here on the island to set it up. Right now i am shooting alminum arrows and i def dont think they are the right weight for the bow because they dont fly straight at all. Maybe this year i will get it setup the right way and try to start shooting it some more.

The first thing I did when my wife bought me my first stickbow was to buy a book and read it.... I also checked out some youtube videos. I was impressed how fast the "instinct" came to me. The best I have ever been was still only good enough to shoot well at 20 yards. Mike, as you said... if I took a doe or even a spike It would be just as good as almost any deer I have taken. Im hoping a good stickbow will help me to be better at shooting and maybe increase my range a bit. We will see.

Beautifull looking bow! I respect the traditional way and like to keep it simple instead of getting caught up in all the latest gadgets. When i think about how large animals were originally hunted with spears, sling shots and hand made bows and arrows, I can not help but wonder why do we need all these latest most sufisticated weapons, scents, and calls. Goes back to the same subjest we discussed in a previous forums about getting caught up in the Hype of all the gadgets. Lots of luck with the bow! That ahrrisburg show is next week, right? still haven't decide if I'm going...

great looking bow. All the luck to you with it. My buddy billy who got me into hunting and archery used to shoot instinctively real good. His Uncle Jerry took a great 8 pointer with a custom recurve that he made the cedar arrows for at the age of 73+. That was in 2008 and I was with them when he did it. It was a tear jerking hunt and one that i will never forget. Uncle jerry taught Billy instinctive shooting as a kid at the country house. His way to egt us to bring in all the arows and not lose any was the old crack over the knuckles if you gave up on an arrow. He didn't hunt with us this year and he was truly missed. I hope he is with us in deer camp this year.

Great bow and much luck getting your deer with it.

Beautiful bow.. I have been shooting instinctively for 26 years ... with a compoundbow before I went traditional 11 years ago... I practice all the time and as proficient as I am with my bow.. I still would only consider shooting 20 yards and in... I shoot 60# and even with the added draw weight arrows don't fly flat enough for good consistency at longer yardages... at longer yardages, shooting instinctively, your first arrow is usually the worst of a group... simply because of all the room for error... as you continue shooting that distance the group will tighten up as you get a good lock on the yardage, tragectory and such. Heavier weighted arrows and broadheads are more stable in flight, but also drop off quicker... Although I'm sure there are guys that shoot their trad bows at deer from longer distances.. I'll bet their success rate drops as well...

Now that's what you call a stick and string. Not much curve to that bow huh. Looks cool, lots of luck with it.

Nice bow. I was thinking about selling my recurve and getting a different one. I don't really like the one i have now.
